In which we talk about something other than the Sugar Bowl

After a week off of work, I thought it might be time to log in yesterday.  You can imagine my surprise when I found out that my contract had expired on December 31st and I had been shut out of the system because the person who was supposed to authorize my contract extension left for her vacation before sending that critical approval email back to Procurement.

And, apparently, she’s not coming back for another week.

Not being one to waste a little bonus vacation time, I cleverly disguised a visit to Heather’s as “running errands”  and arrived just as snack was being served and had a delightful piece of pound cake while I oohed and aahed over the sketch book that SHE MADE and an Amy Butler sewing book that contains a pattern for pajamas that H swears will be the last one I’ll ever need.

After a quick stop at Costco, I went to the Mexican market for my bi-monthly black bean buying  spree and it was conveniently lunch time and they had platanos (fried bananas) so, of course, I had to have some.

Because if there’s a way to make fruit bad for you, I certainly want to be a part of that.

Then I picked up the kids and thought it might be time to get back on the exercise train because the last time I put on my running shoes was December 23rd and I thought I might try a 5K to kickstart things and I SHAVED 12 MINUTES OFF MY TIME FROM LAST MONTH!!!!  Hooray!!!!!

And then Arkansas lost the Sugar Bowl and the day took a decided turn for the worse.

But we’re not going to talk about that.

Because I’m bitter.

Have a nice day.

  1. So, mentioning I’m from Columbus, Ohio would not be advisable today? Seriously, not an OSU fan which is why I was banished to NC. Love.

  2. Hey… the game did not end well but it was a very exciting game full of hope, anger, yelling, blaming, punctuated by moments of triumph , a great comeback and, lastly and unfortunately, the agony of defeat.

    What is your Arkansas connection?

  3. I love fried bananas. Especially on some vanilla bean ice cream…..

I also LOVE Amy Butler…her fabric, her patterns, her paper, her books…

…but not as much as I love you!

    😉

  4. I actually looked at the sugar bowl in my cabinet this morning and wanted to cry the ugly cry.
    But we’re not discussing it.

  5. We had a yummy supper tonight that made me think of you: I put black beans in the “Bullet”, then added them to the ground beef that was browning & added a package of taco seasoning; shredded a head of Romaine; grated some Monterey Jack; chopped half a green pepper, half an onion, mixed them with a can of diced tomato, chili powder, cumin, & salt (didn’t have any salsa, so this was the substitute, which really was better than salsa because it was so fresh); heated some flour tortillas; & chowed down! After a breakfast of yogurt & 1 slice of rye toast with peanut butter on it, and then a bagel about 2:30 PM, by 6 PM I was STARVED!

  6. sadness over the sugar bowl at our house as well. as the hubby said today, “i’m still emotionally worn out.” suck.

  7. I have to say that when I read the sentence starting with “I shaved…” I thought, oh dear, we have reached a new blogging low, but then you rallied by running a personal best…whew! So, you’re saying our snack-fest weekend was really an ideal training regimen? I may take up running if that’s the case.

  8. i’m totally with momologuer. i really thought we were going to be discussing shaving legs in this post 🙂

  9. That really was an exciting game! Even though we were hoping for an OSU win, by the end, you couldn’t help but hope Arkansas could pull it off! What a comeback!

  10. Umm, did you say twelve MINUTES?!?!?!? HOLY CRAP, Susan! 12 MINUTES? You are officially a runner. No question about it. I cannot compete.
