Blah, blah, blah, THREE SHOTS, blah blah

I finally was able to get all the MRI’s scheduled/surgical appointments booked and as of this afternoon have a clearer picture of what it going on with my shoulder (though since I am currently on a double dose of painkillers, whether or not I can coherently explain it remains to be seen).

1. The good news is I don’t have to have surgery.

2. The bad news is I had to have three shots in my shoulder joint and then painfully and awkwardly wedge it into a torture device for half an hour to find out the good news.

3. For the medical people, there’s bone bruising, a partial tear in the rotator cuff, fraying of the bursa, calcific tendinitis, and a lot of inflammation in the tendon and bursal sack which is causing an impingement. None of this requires surgical intervention. There is also a pretty significant bone spur that may or may not be irritating the tendon so if the pain and lack of movement aren’t better after the boatload of cortisone that went in my arm via A VERY LARGE NEEDLE, in six weeks we will reevaluate and maybe go in orthoscopically (I don’t think that’s a word) and smooth it and some other calcification out.

4. PT is suspended for this week to let the cortisone do its magic and then resumes next week for the next couple of months.

5. It was a painful, exhausting day and I will admit to crying because my arm hurt so bad but I am totally counting it as a win that I made it through without swearing out loud or jumping off the exam table.

6. My friend and neighbor Rachel has been a God-send. Craig is traveling so she was a huge help meeting Travis’ school bus so I could keep my appointments. She also left dinner ready to pop in the oven and I’m here to tell you it’s possible to get weepy over Mexican lasagna.

7. I’m about to hit publish without proofreading because see above re drugs and the page is getting kinda’ swimmy. In short, all is good.

Onward and upward.

Have a nice day.

  1. Love you. And there you were…holding me up through my drama. I totally forgot to ask about Mr. Shoulder. See, I helped defer your pain from the shoulder to your neck. 😉 Feel better soon, CPQ

  2. I’m SO glad you don’t need surgery! I have had those cortisone shots & though they do their magic later, they hurt something fierce! Praying for you as you go through the coming weeks/months of therapy & whatever else. As soon as I’m up to par enough to do so, I would love to bring you some meals.

    Love, Sandy

  3. Good news, indeed! Praying for you and yours.

  4. Dear lady, that sounds as of surgery might be a relief (though I know it’s not!)! Praying for quick healing and continued love and blessings from sweet friends!

  5. Yay for no surgery, but praying for a quick healing!!
